Tea alternatives include herbs that are not technically tea, since they do not include leaves from the camellia sinensis plant, but still contain caffeine unlike herbal blends. Tea alternatives have a variety of flavors, and contain caffeine. Alternatives can be steeped at high temperatures, anywhere from 210-212 degrees (f) for as long as you’d like – because they don’t contain tea, they don’t have the tannins that makes tea bitter when steeped too long. We recommend starting at 3-4 minutes and adjusting to taste. Use about 1-2 teaspoons of tea alternative per 8 ounces of water.
