You’ve heard of Rooibos “tea” but do you really know what it is? It is not considered tea, since it doesn’t come from the Camellia Sinensis plant. It’s actually a caffeine-free herbal infusion (also known as a tisane) made from leaves of a shrub native to South Africa. We’ve gathered all the best facts, tips and tricks you should know about Rooibos, and today we’re going to share a few!
The common pronunciation of rooibos is ROY-BOSS, but when said quickly, it sounds like ROY-BUS. This drink is packed with antioxidants, which may help protect your cells from damage. Rooibos has many other health benefits including potentially reducing cholesterol levels.
More Health Benefits of Rooibos

- It does not have a stimulatory effect of caffeine heavy teas
- Suggested to be heart-friendly and have beneficial effects on blood pressure. The high flavonol content also supports the cardiovascular system because it’s anti-inflammatory.
- May benefit people with type 2 diabetes since it may help protect against the oxidative damage associated with diabetes. Again, the many antioxidants could help to balance blood sugar levels and reduce insulin resistance.
